After starting his legal career as Law Clerk to Justice Edwin J. Peterson of the Oregon Supreme Court, Don was hired as an associate with the firm in 1980, and has been a partner at McEwen Gisvold since 1985.  He served as McEwen Gisvold’s managing partner from 2000 to 2004.  Don has been included as one of The Best Lawyers in America since 2003, and named an Oregon Super Lawyer since 2007.  He was selected to be a Fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers in 2011.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS:
Don is an active member of the Multnomah Bar Association and a member of the Oregon Mortgage Bankers Association.  He has held several positions of leadership with the Oregon State Bar Association’s Real Estate and Land Use Section, serving as Chair and Secretary of the Executive Committee.  Don has published extensively with the Oregon State Bar’s Continuing Legal Education.  He has also been a frequent speaker on real property and lending issues. 

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
Don serves on the Board of Trustees for George Fox University (Chair, Academic Committee, and Member of the Executive Committee) and Portland Seminary’s Board of Regents (Vice Chair).  He has additionally chaired the Arthritis Foundation’s Oregon Chapter, served as a delegate for the Foundation’s national meeting, and received the Robert E. Rinehart, M.D. Volunteer of the Year Award for his efforts.
