After starting his legal career as Law Clerk to Justice Edwin J. Peterson of the Oregon Supreme Court, Don was hired as an associate with the firm in 1980, and has been a partner at McEwen Gisvold since 1985. He served as McEwen Gisvold's managing partner from 2000 to 2004. He represents clients in the areas of real estate, real estate finance, environmental law, business law and estate planning. Don was named to the 2005-2006 and earlier editions of The Best Lawyers in America and was identified by Chambers USA in 2005 and 2006 as one of Oregon’s leading real estate lawyers.

Representative Transactions
In December, 2005, Don documented the refinance of a $33 million loan on a shopping center in Oregon.

Since January 1, 2006, he has represented lenders financing in excess of $250 million on transactions in Oregon and neighboring states.

Professional & Community Activities
Don is an active member of the Multnomah Bar Association, a member of the Portland Metropolitan Association of Realtors and a member of the Oregon Mortgage Lenders Association. He has held several positions of leadership with the Oregon State Bar Association’s Real Estate and Land Use Section, serving as Chair and Secretary of the Executive Committee. Don has published extensively with the Oregon State Bar’s Continuing Legal Education. He has also been a frequent speaker on real property, lending and environmental issues.

Don serves on the Board of Trustees for George Fox University and the George Fox Evangelical Seminary’s Board of Regents. He has additionally chaired the Arthritis Foundation’s Oregon Chapter, served as a delegate for the Foundation’s national meeting, and received the Robert E. Rinehart, M.D. Volunteer of the Year Award for his efforts.
